DVD+R compatibility on factory player

Does anybody know if there is a brand of DVD+R/RW that would work in the Toyota factory DVD player? I have tried Ricoh (Ritek) DVD+r and DVD+RW, both shows DVD error.

Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Try DVD-R instead.

We have a 04 Sienna that came with the DVD option. Most Toyota/Lexus SUVs also offer this option.

I wish my burner could do DVD-R. Everything else in the house plays DVD+R just fine. This particular Toyota unit is just very picky about media. CD-R works fine though.

Thanks for the help.

Stephen,

I also tied Memorex DVD+r and DVD+RW with no luck on a 2004 sienna. I am getting a DVD Error in the screen. That means the player knows a DVD is inserted. I am not sure if the firmware on the unit can be upgraded to accept DVD+R that will most likely solve the issue because as you said it reads CD-R easily. I was recording using the SVCD format on CD-R with no issues. Did you find a DVD+R that works? Let me know.

I believe Toyota OEM uses Pioneer decks.

And Pioneer had just started to support +R/RW in their latest DVD burner for PC.

This might be the reason why.

(CD-R has nothing to do with DVD-/+R compatibliity.)

I did try DVD-R and it works on the Sienna. I have a dual format drive so I test both DVD+R and DVD+RW and they did not work. My drive does not support bitsetting so I cannot test DVD+R with Book Type of DVD-ROM. How can I know if the DVD unit on my Sienna is a Pioneer unit? Do I need to take it apart?
