Head-Unit Volume Setting

Volume Setting

I have a 2005 Corolla CE, and I have been reading a lot of comments from other owners them trying to avoid turning up the volume on the stock HU past the “28-30 level.” Is it the general consensus that the signal becomes distorted? I only ask because I would like to know where to start form when tuning my amp.
Also, does anyone know what the output voltage reading would be for the same HU?

Many thanks in advance.

With almost any stereo, even expensive after market ones, the signal will distort when turned up all the way. This is because the manufacturer wants to leave headroom for audio recorded at lower levels to still be turned up high. When setting up your amp turn up the volume on the hu until the first sign of clipping, and then turn it back a few clicks. If this is done using a recording at a normal volume then the system should be tuned right. There is no reason to set it so it can't clip, just use your head and turn it down anytime you hear clipping or you could damage your speakers.
