My First DIY Alarm -- DEI 740t to 1999 Camry

Now is the time to do a DIY install with the Hornet DEI 740t in a 1999 Toyota Camry - 4 door.

Here are the connections I have come up with and color wiring, from the Alarm Unit 740t to the Camry wiring..

1. Starter Interrupt Input/Output (Black) ---> Ignition Switch Harness Starter Ignition (RED)
2. Light Flash (White +) ---> Vehicle Parking Light Wire (GREEN +)
3. Negative Door Pin Switch (GREEN -) ---> Door Trigger (RED/WHITE -)
4. Chassis Ground ---> Chassis Ground (BLACK)
5. Ignition Input (YELLOW +) ---> Ignition Switch Harness (BLACK/YELLOW)
6. Siren Output (BROWN +) ---> Siren
7. Constant 12v Power (RED +) ---> Ignition Switch Harness Constant 12V+ (WHITE or WHITE/RED)
8. Door Unlock (BLUE -) Unlock ---> Door Unlock (RED/GREEN -)
9. Door Lock (GREEN -) Lock ---> Door Lock (LIGHT GREEN -)

Can any gurus verify this or make comments? This will be my first Alarm DIY.

Thanks...

Go check out www.the12volt.com for diagrams and instructions. There is much more to that install than just that...

That's exactly where I got the information. After reading all the info, I wanted to verify with someone that may have installed an alarm in a Camry. This is my first for a Camry. I generally do sound systems...

You should try to score the DEI Master Sheet for you Camry.

It will tell you all the wiring connections you need, what color the wire, and where it is located.

I have found several sites with wire charts only.

I was hoping to find some actual pics of the wire connections and locations.

It's a simple alarm (Hornet 740T)....just an alarm with remote. No major connections. Based on the Alarm instructions....I just need the following connections.

1. Starter Motor....I think I got this one.
2. Parking light....I think I can find this one, but not sure.
3. Negative Door Pin.....Not sure about this one.
4. Chassis Ground.....Simple
5. Ignition Input.....I think I got this one.
6. Siren Output.....Simple
7. Constant Power.....Simple
8. Power Door Locks.....Not sure about this one.

So as you can see....If I can find #2, #3, & #8....I should be OK.

Thanks...

Seems like I have found all the alarm connections for a 1999 Camry.

What I need is the location of the Ignition harness wiring.

I need to find in the Ignition harness:

12v Constant Wire.....White or White/Red
12v Ignition Wire...Black/Yellow
Starter Wire...Red

Can someone post a pic or help me locate where these wires are.

Thanks...

when you remove the knee bulster or the plastic panel under the steering column the the black metal one behind that you will need to look to the right of the column behind the key cylinder you will see the harness, cut off the black plastic tubing to give yourself enough room to work. I normally make all of my connections after the white molex plug. good luck with your install.
