I can't comment on a 1996, but I just installed a complete slamming sound system in a 1999 Camry. Had to run two 4 Gauge power cables for to amps to the battery, from the trunk.

On the 1999, under the drivers kick panel, on the left side of the sterring, you willl see where the manual clutch would be. Instead, it's blank plate looking area on an automatic, and not used. It's a straight shoot through the firewall. Nothing is on either side. Be sure you double tape any wires or cables you run through there. Also, if you can get a rubber goumet that will fit will be even better. Also, use 100% silicone to keep water tight.

You can drill if you get the correct angle or I used a ground rod grinded to a point and a 4 lb sledge .......goes straight through with no shape edges.

Good luck....

By the way, what are you installing?

16g is thinner.

Use 10g or 8g. My amp uses an 8g wire from the battery.
