Lost Steering wheel controls

I just replaced the factory head unit on my '05 solara with an alpine iva-w505. I lost all the radio controls on my steering wheel which was expected and which I will fix with a third party adapter. However what was unexpected was that i lost functionality of the display button on the steering wheel that controls the little display that tells you info such as mpg. Obviously this control was originally routed through the stock head unit. I'm wondering if anybody has any ideas at all on how to restore this functionality while still keeping my aftermarket head unit. I'm wondering if there are any third party adapters or possibly a way of removing whatever piece controls this function out of the stock unit. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
