speaker match for 2009 Corolla Factory HU

Hey all,

Lots of real good information here. I'm not much of an audiophile - I just want a system that sounds a little better than the stock setup. I listen mostly to punk and alternative rock if that helps with selection.

I've read a lot of posts here already and I'm starting to get a feel for what folks are recommending. Here's my situation: I have the stock head unit, single CD with AUX input and 4 factory speakers. I have installed a TOY-SC1, SC-C1 Sirius tuner in the trunk and attached it to the factory antenna with a Lexus GS shark fin adapter. Works well for me and because of this, I'd like to keep the factory head unit.

I've been researching options for better sound and heard pretty good things about the Alphine S series speakers for the front doors. I didn't plan on installing an amp, but I don't know if I'd be better off with a component speaker set and installing the tweeters in the sail panel on each door (this is where Toyota installed the tweeters for the 6 speaker systems I believe). I seem to get 95% of my perceived sound volume from the rear deck speakers now, so I thought the front door speakers would be a good place to start upgrading.

So given that I want to keep the factory head unit for Sirius control - am I wasting my money getting the Alpine S series speakers for the front doors or will I notice a worthwhile improvement? Any other suggestions you'd recommend for a good sounding system given the parameters above? Thanks a lot!

Steve,
You will see an improvement in your sound system with the upgrade to the alpine s-type speakers. Keep in mind that the new speakers are not as efficient as the OEM speakers so you will have to cheat your fader to the front so that the OEM rears do not over power the new fronts. My advice is to replace all of your speakers with the Stype Coaxials.

I am an Alpine Dealer and do this same upgrade at leaset 4 times a week. You can also add Ipod to your radio with the Peripheral Media Gateway.

Hope this helps,
Shaun

Shaun,
Thanks for taking the time to answer. And thanks for the heads up to replace all four speakers at the same time - that sounds like what I'll do. Thanks again, glad to know I wasn't going to be wasting money.
