I've read that underpowering a sub can damaged it, but you've got to do something retarded, like hook up a 250W RMS 12" directly to your headunit that produces, like, 25W RMS.... I've got an MTX 421D amp powering 2 Thunder 6000 12s. The amp is about 420W RMS, which is about 210W to each sub (mono amp). The subs handle 250W RMS and 500W max each. Been running this setup since August without problems.

nah even if you hooked it up to your headunit it wouldnt blow.

heres something to think about. how many times do you drive around with your head unit NOT on full volume? everytime you do that your sub is being underpowered. if you could blow subs by underpowering them then we would have to drive around listening to music at full volume all the time.

Right on Proph, you should post here more often because this audio sections needs ya.
The only thing that can really damage a speaker other than a baseball bat is distortion. A small power supply does not cause distortion. Uniformed owners cause distortion.
