'02 Avalon OEM subwoofer - looks good, sounds bad - rebuild?
I just bought an '02 Avalon, and noticed the subwoofer sounded buzzy. I searched the forums and found out (a) most go bad, (b) how to remove it, (c) lots of people recommend rebuilding/refoaming.
I removed the sub, expecting to see deteriorating foam/other visible signs of decay. However the unit looks fine. The foam is all intact, and the rest of the unit shows no visible signs of decay. However, it still sounds buzzy, even if I hold it in my hands while it plays (ie, it isn't rattling in its enclosure).
So my question is: if a speaker looks good but sounds bad will rebuilding fix it, or is there something fatally wrong with it?
Thanks,
s.l.
