3rd Generation Anyone smart about VIP RS3000 security system?

Greetings:

I purchased a 96 Camry equipped with the Toyota VIP RS3000 security system with the ECU mounted below drivers seat. The car came with one black remote door opener that didn't do anything. The battery in the remote checked good and the LED in the remote illuminated when I pressed the button.

I have researched programming instructions for the remote that basically says to:
1.turn the ignition switch to the 2nd position,
2. push the little green recessed program button on the ECU until the security LED light (located on the console by the parking brake lever) lights up
3. push one of the buttons on the remote for two sec or so and then
4. turn the ignition switch off and remove the key

I'm stuck at item #2. My LED on the console never lights up. I have continued the procedure thinking the LED was bad but no luck. The only thing that happens is the LED in the remote control flashes if the button on the remote is held in.

Thinking the VIP 3000 ECU was unpowered, I removed all three connectors to the ECU and verified power to the unit. Also, with the three plugs removed, the engine would not turn over. By touching various pins in the three plugs, I was able to open and close the door locks and sound the horn, which tells me the harness is intact.

So, bad ECU or bad or incompatable remote or both? Lets hear from the experts!

It is not uncommon that those ecu got shorted out when being detailed. Open up the ecu and see if there is any sign of corrosion, and also check to make sure there is power to the ecu. You can probbaly still obtain a copy of the installation instruction from your dealer to help you trace the wiring.

Thanks for the reply. I removed the three wiring harness plaugs to the ECU and did verify that it has power to it and the CB must be somewhat intact because the engine will not turn over unless the harnesses are plugged in. I'll open up the ECU and take a look though.
