wiring help

i have a 1997 toyota tercell. yes i know they are still out there. only drive to work and back. other vehical is a tundra. Anyways decided to put a after market cd player in the tercell. gray which is positive bat. and yellow blue which is constant bat and brown to ground. Nothing new. However when i attach these wires all i get is the blinking red light. No display on the deck. Deck only functions properly when bat and constant bat are hooked together. Guess my question is, is this going to cause a short or drain my bat. Have installed several cd players several times in diffrent vehicals and never had this problem... Any help would be appriciated.

It sounds like your accessory power wire from the car isn't working, yes? You could check the fuse on it. Also use a test light or multimeter on the accessory wire with the car on and see if you have your 12 volts. Obviously if your ACC/IGN fuse is fine and you have no voltage at the wire something went wrong. If thats the case I'd just run a new wire back to the fuse box or some sorts. Or if your lighter socket is only active with the car on. The turn on for the radio uses next to no power, so you should be able to splice it on to whatever will work for you. Otherwise relays!
