remote starter

Does anyone know of a good remote starter for the XRS? If so, do they work with the existing keyless entry or is it a totally separate unit as a remote start/alarm system?

you can get a remote starter for it... there's a member up here who's shown up at a meet with a remote starter.. it was all integrated with his security system. i dont think the current keyless entry can be upgraded at all

remote starter

they are all good but it depends on what you want and what you want to spend (mine was 180.00 cdn installed, pwr locks, hatch pop, interior light, no extra bypass wiring needed) you can connect them to your stock alarm, you can roll your windows down. there are two way fm types that have a display on the remote that tells you the status of your car(running, open doors whatever) the one i chose is pro start. and yes before antone asks you can get them for auto or manual and they are perfectly safe.

Any aftermarket remote start will work with the OEM keyless entry/alarm. You will need an immobilizer bypass unit to make it work as well.

At Circuit City you need a bypass if you have an alarm already. They program your doorlocks (keyless entry) to work with the new remote, not sure about the alarm aspect as I don't install but I'd assume they can get factory alarms to work fine with it.

All '98-up Toyota will need an immobilizer bypass if you have a full factory alarm, not just the keyless entry, and it is a SEPARATE unit from the aftermarket alarm/remote start.

I went to circuit city today....they told me it was against the law to bypass any safety switches (clutch safety switch I am assuming). He did tell me that he could "get it done" but there would be no warranty, garantee, reciept, nothing. Any truth to this?

^ it can be done... not sure about legality issues though.. they're probably covering their own asses.. you can still buy the system. just have a local audio shop install it for you, or buy one from them

The only legal issue is adding a remote start to a manual transmission car, otherwise, there are NO legal issues for adding an aftermarket remote start.

Uhm most places wont do it for liability reasons. All it takes is for you to leave your car in gear once, and you'll find yourself paying out of your ass for insurance and damages and what not. And there wouldn't be a warranty, receipt or anything else because someone can be found liable for it if there is all that. It's not really a good idea to do it because even if you never leave your car in gear when you park... someone may borrow your car and... well you get the idea.

No, it won't void the warranty. But you may lose a key for the immobilizer bypass.
