Disabling Factory Alarm Valet Mode

Help!!!

I have a '96 Corolla that I've inherited from my wife (she drives the 03 Corolla). My factory alarm is constantly in Valet mode and I can't get it to turn off (where the alarm goes off 30 seconds after you open the doors unless you turn the ignition). My wife bought the car without the key fob and they had it in Valet mode when they sold it to her.

A few months back I was able to get it to turn off by accident, but I don't know how. We recently did some work on the engine (disconnecting battery and everything) and it's back in Valet mode.

Does someone know how to turn this off? I heard there's a combination of turning on the ignition and opening the doors that will do it, but I can't get a clear answer by Googling it. I've tried unplugging the alarm, but I can't do that since it's wired in with the starter and that disables the car. Taking out the fuse is also a no go, as that disables the horn. Any tips or tricks to get this disabled? Thanks!
