Damaged subwoofer surround

Is there any was to repair the foam surround? I accidentally gouged the surround cutting a bolt head off with a Dremel rotary tool.

It is only a gouge in the foam surround; there is no perforation in the foam surround. Heck, do I even need to make the repair? The gouge is about 1/2 in long. I have not hooked up the subwoofer since I damaged the sub.

No real harm done.

If it is only a small tear, repair it with silicone. Build up a layer over the front and rear of the tear and spread it at least 1/4 inch away from the tear. Once it sets up, add another thin layer over the "fix" Make sure you let it cure at least 24 hours before firing it back up. We fixed a sub with about 10 rips in the surround from my friend's Lab and it worked perfectly.

In answer to your original question, yes there are replacement surrounds all over Ebay. I've refoamed several vintage home speakers quite successfully.

for such a small rip, i wouldnt even bother, unless you are anal about how it looks(if even visible). I have pretty much the same rip in my surround from a screwdriver slip and it does not effect the subwoofers performance at all. if you do want to fix it, i second zembonez' statement about the silicone. the totally proper way of doing it would to actually lay a type of mesh on the inside of the surround and patch it up with the silicone on both the inside and the outside

If the system is a ported system... the tear probably won't ever go anywhere.

BUT

If it is a sealed system, you need to make sure to fix it.

Yeah, it's going into a seal enclosure. I don't like the way ported enclosure sounds.

What kind of silicone do I use? It the stuff for kitchen sinks or windows ok?
