Problem after installation

So after I addded an amp and sub to my stock stereo (Gen6 Camry), sometimes when I'm listening to AM radio there's this weird noise going on... I don't know if it's interference or what. The sound is very hard to describe... my best description would be a sort of high-pitched outer-space-like bubbling noise. Sometimes it's only slightly noticeable, and other times it's overwhelming. And sometimes it doesn't seem to be there at all. And it ONLY happens when I'm listening to AM radio. I've noticed that if I'm getting that noise, when I turn my car off but leave the key in the position where I can still have the stereo on, the noise changes to a "non-bubbling" clear high-pitched tone that gradually keeps increasing in pitch. I always turn the car off pretty soon afterwards so my head doesn't explode.

I'm no expert, but I've installed cd players, amps, subs, speakers, etc, in probably 6 or 7 cars before and never run into anything like this. My first guesses as to the problem were either a bad ground or an un-shielded power wire too close to other speaker wires. I thought I'd ask for some ideas before I do anything yet. Thanks.

Oh, and I have this small black thing w/ a wire attached that used to be taped (I think) to the back of my glove box. This got disconnected during the install, but I had no clue what it was and just left it hanging free back there. I have no clue if that has anything to do w/ it at all. (real helpful, I know haha)

2nd Generation

what your getting is most commonly refered to as engine noise. a bad ground could have caused damage to either the head unit or amp. first thing to try is to check your ground to be sure that you properly cleaned the paint from the metal and it is tight. its a common cause of this problem. if that doesnt help then the problem is in a piece of your equiptment. you can purchase a noise filter from a local stereo shop and its easy to install. they should run around $20. you could also try to turn the gain down on your amp. this may not get rid of the sound but should quiet it alot. good luck and keep us posted.
