Where to run power wire, besides behind wheel well
I going to be putting my system together soon, but I am going to be using kickpods so I do not want to run my power wire behind the wheel well and through the grommet behind the kickpanel. My friend once ran 4 guage wire through the firewall under the passenger side dash but I have been unable to do as he did.
I'm thinking about running all the power and remote turn on wires down the middle so that they do not interfere with the RCA and speaker wire. So it would be best if I could get my wire through that hole again, however, this time around I'll be running 2 or 1 guage wire so I am not sure that it will fit. Are there any locations that you guys know of that are safe to drill through? Also, does the carpet in the back part of the car come up easily? between the front and back seats because I will obviously want to conceal the wires and I doubt it will be as easy as running them along the doors.

i find it's the easiest to run it throught the grommet by the drivers' side strut into the wheel well then into the driver's compartment. the hole is already there and no drilling required. a 2 or 0 gauge is pretty thick and you need to have a pretty big hole to fit that thru. and trying to drill a hole through a firewall is no as easy as it seems.
it'd be harder to run it through the middle of the car since you need to take apart the middle console and then under the middle part of the back seat carpet. it's easier to run it along the sides where you can just take off the trim and lift the carpet.
but whatever you want to do... just a little but more sweat going down the middle of the car, thas all.
Ideally I would just run it there but basically the power wire would be running right next to a speaker and I have a feeling that'll give me a bit of static if nothing else.
But yeah that's where I ran my power wire for my old subs set up...
I know I can tuck the wire under the sides of the console so that'll save me a little work, then cut a hole for the wires to go through and under the carpet to the back seats. Just wondering how hard it is to pull that carpet up so I can run the wires.

It would be ok to run it down the driver side of the car because unless your pulling 10,000 watts of power through that wire, it won't give off enough of a field to fuck with your speaker. 0/1 gauge is so thick that when running low power, it acts as though it's shielded.

Wouldn't quad-shielded low-level rca wires possibly help reduce static/interferance with the 2 gauge running close to it it, if you were forced to run down the side?
Originally posted by [SMAN] Somewhat, but running quad shield would still be worse thanrunning unshielded along the other side of the car.
Yeah I know, but he has kickpods, so I assume that the wires are gonna be on both sides (L&R PODS, of course)... therefore leaving the options of: 1. Running the wires down the middle or 2. Running the wires in the standard location; down one of the sides.
So yeah, I guess the best would be down the middle, I will take a peek at the carpeted area for ya' when I get home tonight, I don't have my backseats in/much of anything in the Camry right now because of my audio-install!
Well I'm going to be running some quality Monster Cable for all the wiring in the car, but even then I'm still worried about interferance. Thanks Arca.
