3rd Generation gen 3 camry door speaker problem

the front speakers will not work in my 94 LE. it is not the speakers themselves, because i have tried multiple speakers and i get the same results. the front left will not work at all, and the front right will produce little sound as maximum volume. so the only options that are left would be the wiring, headunit, or if there is an amplifier for the headunit, then that could be the problem.

for those gen 3 owners, did the gen 3 camry come stock with an amplifier with the basic sound system?

I would imagine the base level Camry would come with just a stereo. No external amplifier, thats extra.

So I'll presume you have the stock radio too. If you get the wiring diagram for the stereo harness, you can point down the offending wires to the speaker. Take an ohmmeter to the lines that go to the door speaker (right at the radio) and measure the resistance. Depending what you're speakers have printed on the back this can vary- but it will most likely be 4Ω
If you're reading OL on the meter, then the speaker wire got cut. If you're reading anythign under 1Ω, it shorted somewhere.

If thats not the problem and it checks out- making sure you have the right set of wires, Use another speaker to test if you have audio leaving the stereo. If you don't, theres your problem.

at the moment I'm trying to get my friends dvom to measure the voltage and resistance of the wires. and btw, I have an aftermarket headunit and rear speakers with an amp for them, but the front speakers are stock and wired to the headunit. they had been working for a while but about a week ago they quit. I have tried multiple speakers and I still have the same problem. the resistance should be either 4 ohms and if the car is running I should have about 13.8 volts available, or only 12.6 if the car is only on accessory. I'm thinking the passenger side has some unneeded resistance and the front is shorted out or open somewhere after the connector. I'm gonna take a look at it tomorrow. when I bought the car it had the headunit already in it and had some ghetto rigged sub wiring, but that didn't affect it. they had the door panels off before and maybe before they got rid off the car they put the stock speakers back in it and did a crappy job of reconnecting them and possibly a connection came undone or is corroded.
