Question 2009 corolla s Speaker upgrade

I'm in the process of upgrading my speakers, i bought alpine type s speakers on buy.com for $150 dollars i plan on doing front and rear. I've been reading that to mount them i would have to cut out the old speakers and remove rivets, then replace them with screws. Can anyone that has done this tell me if they cut the speakers out or got the adapter they sell on ebay and if either one of these increase road noise. also read somewhere that you should unplug the battery cause the airbag might go off is that true?

i try to disco0nnect the battery whenever working on something mechanical or electrical on the car. bad thing could happen if two wires touch or someone accidentally tries to start the car while you're under the car or taking a leak.

I also replaced my speakers with Alpine "S" 6 1/2's for the fronts and 6x9's for the rear. To simplify the installation, I use adapters from http://stores.ebay.ca/Speaker-Adapte...Z6803425QQtZkm. Both adapters for the 08 Corolla are compatible with the 09's. The speakers are secured with supplied hardware to the adapters and the adapters are secured to the car with the original fasteners. You will have to get some replacement rivets for the front adapters or you can use some nuts/bolts. The "S" series will work with the OEM head-unit but an amplifier will improve the overall sound. I'm using http://www.reqsound.com/ (re-Q5) to convert the head-unit's speaker output to a line level signal and also to provide a remote turn-on. This supplies two Alpine amplifiers, one four channel for the front/rear and a mono amplifier for two JL audio 10" subs. This is not a loud boom system, I prefer a very smooth and somewhat loud audio system.

We need a DIY for speaker replacement for rear deck

Ok, so i got some 6x9s to replace the the factory crap in the rear deck.

I pulled down the back seats and now i cant figure out how to get the rear deck off without tearing the plastic. I know it is not that difficult. But i would prefer to keep my car in excellent condition without tearing some of my trim up

Has anyone else replaced the back speakers and could post some step-by-step pics?

removing the bad speakers was a pain but worth it the stock speakers are horrible. audio will sound alot better. here are instructions http://2k7corolla.blogspot.com/2006/...from-2007.html. you need a plastic puddy knife or what i used was a flathead screw driver in a pair of socks. they just start pulling it all off. it won;t break pulling it apart so don't worry.i did break two of the little plastic screws, which isn't bad when you end up talking like 50 out( i did front and rear think i just hit it too hard when putting it back together, but you can buy some at home depot my dad had some back ones that worked perfectly. good luck

yep pretty much identical, only difference was the center piece where the seat belts come out of theres no screws there. just make sure you start from the bottom cause every piece attaches to the next one, took me a while to figure that out, glad i didn't break anything the i found that tutorial.

I have a 2009 Corolla s with 6 speaker system and i am planning to upgrade the front speakers for now (keeping the factory head unit). I have been reading a lot about the upgrade options and would like to know if there will be any significant advantage of installing component speakers over the coaxial speakers? I have found a high sensitivity (94db) and low impedance (2 ohm) component speaker system that i am really liking. Also, if i install the component speakers in the front, then do i need to install components at the rear also or i can go with coaxials on the back in future?
Finally, where can i find instructions to install the front speakers, tweeters and crossovers?

the 6 speaker system does come with tweets, however the stock deck and lack of amplification will be your weak points if you go for a high fidelity system. You can install any combination. (The most widely used are amp powered components in the front, and stock powered off the head unit in the back with a sub).

Most cheap amps wont be able to handle 2ohm impedence so Im not sure if the stock headunit can power those by itself without clipping. Also, you have to look at the rms wattage. I dont think the stock hu can do anything over 10 or 15watts. Are you looking at Image Chamelons by chance?

Your best bet is to add a loc, and small amp for the front or to get lower wattage speakers like the alpine-S or you might even be able to do the R's.

Thanks for replying. After a lot of reading, i have been stuck on the Infinity 6020cs component system. Specs say 2-90 watts RMS, 93db sensitivity and 2 ohm impedance. It has real good reviews and comes with mounting brackets which probably eliminates requirement of other accessories as well as additional costs. Do you think the corolla's factory head unit will be able to drive these speakers? I dont need shattering loud music, just looking for a clear and crisp audio system.

The other option i am considering is the Kicker DS6502 component system and i chose this one just because of its lower RMS wattage. Please suggest which one will be a better choice. Or if there is any other alternate option you can recommend, then it will be greatly appreciated.

FYI, There are threads in this forum that go back aways that have illustrated and written instructions on removing the front and rear speakers and the head unit. They are separate threads and there may be more than one on some of the topics. Sorry I don't have the links on hand but they are worth looking at.
