'94 Carina Door Speakers

Hey all, just soliciting a little advise here.

I've got a '94 Toyota Carina ED (Japanese model, but I'm from the U.S.).

The front door speakers on this thing are shot, so I'm looking to replace them. Now, I'm far from being an expert on this sort of thing and I'm not out to install a monster system - just want to replace the shot drivers that are in it now. My level of expertise is zero. Back in the day, I had done some work but that revolved around mounting under-dash Pioneer SuperTuners and Jensen 6x9's.

Anyway, the photo I attached illustrates my problem. The enclosures are massive! The driver I pulled is a 6 1/4" in an 8 1/4" frame! I'm finding it difficult to find something of this size that fits in without adapting it. I've got some old speakers (5 1/2) from a friend and another friend is cutting adaptors from wood, but I'd like something a little more permanent.

Kenwood and Diamond Audio have stuff that's close, but not quite. And other 8" drivers are all marine applications.

If anyone has run into this problem before, I'd be glad to hear how you resolved it.

Thanks in advance.

8" JBL speakers

It is difficult to replace these speakers with a different brand because of the depth and mounting bracket. The originals can be either refoamed or reconed for a fraction of a factory purchased replacement speaker.

if it is a 6x8 oval most standard 5x7 speakers will have mounting capabilities for the 6x8 mount.

if it is an actual 8 inch round speaker... there are not many inexpensive options for these. your best best would be to use a 6.5 and build an adapter ring to fit.

Hope this helps.

5x7... interesting.

It's definitely 6x8 oval; the driver/frame is 8" but the actual driver is only 6 and a quarter.

Thanks for the assist, both of you. I asked a buddy to fabricate some adapters and I've gotten new speakers that'll work.
