Installing front speakers in Gen3

I was helping my friend install speakers into his 94 Camry (gen3) but the speakers didn't come with an adapter plate that worked for this application. What did you guys do when you were in this situation? I know a lot of people suggest making MDF mounting rings but I don't have a lot of tools so it me be a bit difficult for me to do that. I guess there is always the option of glueing the speaker in place.

yeah, heard about adhesive and dremel

if its good adhesive, why not? should make sure that your speakers won't rattle or anything too

Aparently we need GM/Chrysler mounting brackets... they look like they'll work judging from where the holes are... Or I could just use my dremel and cut down the mounting spacers (we were able to get holes to line up pretty well after only having to drill 1 hole just that it was sticking too far out so that the speaker hit the door panel.

It's not hard, that is if you have the right brackets. You'd be best off ordering those if you need to, rather than fabricating something. I realized these would do the trick since I read rayray's DIYDS and his came with brackets that fit, so I checked out the Clarion website and it said they came with GM/Chrysler brackets. So I looked the brackets up on Crutchfield and thats what they showed me was for my car (95 camry). Rear speakers... I think most the time require you to cut the rear deck up a little bit, though.

Anyways, yeah I already got my Lighting Audio 6X9s in. It was kinda a bitch to cut up the sheet-metal back there... but they sure came out great!

Ok, so for front speakers, just get brackets. Cool. I need front speakers bad now. Mine are still distoring with the Fade on the HU set @ +4 to the REAR! Heh!

Yeah Pioneer 6 1/2" speakers just fit right in the front...not perfectly, but good enough. The rear ones required drilling--a much better idea than 'zip-tying' it...which was my first impression of what might have to be done.

I see you guys talking about cutting on the back deck to get 6 by 9's in. I'm planning on putting a 5.25" Kicker component set in there, so am I going to have to cut anything to get it to fit? I haven't had the time to get out and take the car apart to look at it yet. And its too darn cold here to mess with it just yet. Thanks for the help.

5.25" in the rear deck? You must not know much about car audio. Rear speakers are just for rear fill, which means midbass. Basically you don't really need rear speakers if you get a subwoofer. You want almost all the sound to come from in front of you. Basically only stuff below 50 Hz should come from behind you since your ears can't tell where the sound is coming from. Some may argue higher but it is between 50 and 80 Hz that your ears cannot differenciate where the sound comes from. If you really want to use 5.25" components, I suggest getting some kick pods and put them in there (since not all 6.5s will fit into the QLogic ones... and set the HPF to around 100-150 Hz). Then put some midbass drivers in the doors and set the LPF to around 150-200 Hz. Then get a sub and set it to around 50 Hz or maybe slightly higher (depends on what everything else is set to of course and how low your midbass can play).

Oh yeah I just got my kicker midbass drivers in. They don't need any extra brackets or anything. The holes don't quite line up but I can just drill so no problem. They're often quoted as 6.75" speakers though, so that may be why.
