02 Camry Stock HU with Subs?

Hey guys I'm getting some subs and amp off of craigslist, and was wondering if I could use my stock head unit for the install. I'm no too familiar with audio installation, or with the stock sound system of the 02 Camry...Cana nyone help me? Thank you!

you'll need a line output converter because the stock HU will not have rca outputs for the amp. You'll also need some switched 12v+ for the turn on lead, if the LOC doesn't have one. So it can be done with the stock HU, however, if your only amping the subs, but using the stock hu and stock speakers the bass will probably overpower everything else. Sound quality and volume would both be vastly improved with an aftermarket HU.

thanks man...just wondering do you know anything about output converters? I might order a tsunami 645h and was wondering if i could just install it in the trunk and splice the speaker wires there...it also has individual gain controls so i was going to use my rear speakers to just handle the highs and the subs to handle the lows...however in the future I do have plans of getting a new head unit after i get my tint and alarm system...

also what do you mean by "You'll also need some switched 12v+ for the turn on lead, if the LOC doesn't have one." ? sorry I'm a bit new to all of this...

I don't know much about loc's, because I've never used them so i can't be much help on the specifics of hooking them up. It sounds like your on the right track though.

As far as the switched 12v+, an aftermarket HU has a small wire, which is positive 12 volts when the head unit is on, and that wire is what tells the amplifiers to turn on. The stock head unit won't have this wire, so you need to tell the amp to turn on when you turn the radio on. Unless the LOC you get has a lead to do this, then you will need to take some other 12 volt positive from the car and run it to the amp. A switched 12v+ means it will only have power when the car is on, not all of the time, because otherwise it would stay on when the car was off, draining the battery.

Get a PAC-TRUNK LOC(comes w/remote turn-on wire),tap into the rear speakers, run a wire for power from the + battery post to the trunk, ground in trunk to bare metal(same gauge as the power wire) & ur golden.
