New system ideas for '94 corolla DX

hey guys, I've got a '94 corolla DX, the stock system with a tape deck isn't doin it for me though. So in the next few months I plan do pretty much re-do the entire system (new deck, replace the door speakers, replace the back speakers, put in amp and subs). The problem is, I know jackshit about car audio components (). I listen to predominantly hip-hop so speakers that can handle lots of bass are preferred, but I don't want to be able to hear just bass, over-all sound quality is more important. I'm thinking ~$1500 or so for the entire set up (if that's do-able).

To recap;
1 deck
2 front speakers (4 inch)
2 rear speakers (6 3/4 inch)
1 amplifier
2 12" subs.

I'd like some suggestions for entire set-ups or just individual components, thanks in advanced guys.

To recap;
1 deck Kenwood or Eclipse or Clarion
2 front speakers (4 inch) Look into Hertz or Morel (but I would think abou thaving door pods or kick panels done ti hold larger speakers as 4's just do not perform well with bass. you can cross them over but again better off with larger speaks.
2 rear speakers (6 3/4 inch) Hertz or Morel
1 amplifier 1 amp for every thing or just for Subs?
2 12" subs. Image Dynamics, Arc Audio, Hertz, JL,

I'd like some suggestions for entire set-ups or just individual components, thanks in advanced guys.

I'd just wire the subs for the amp as the in car speakers would just be replacing the stock ones. For the in-car's I'm looking mainly for sound quality, I'll let the subs handle the bass, but would I need to pick up a crossover?

If you use an ipod mostly I'd suggest looking at alpine as they integrate very well with ipods. Pioneer is also good. Make sure the hu you get has 3 pairs of rca preouts as well. As far as speakers and subs you need to listen to various ones and see what sounds best to you. I would have an amp for the two subs and one for the 4 speakers. You dont need a huge amp for the speakers but you need something besides the hu or the subs will overpower the speakers. You also should get a 4 or 1/0 awg wiring kit and do the big 3. You only need a crossover if you get component speakers. Lastly, read every page on this site that is about electricity and car audio from start to finish.

If you're getting subs, then you must dynamat your trunk or use some other form of sound insulation because it will rattle like crazy if you're putting two 12s in there.

Good point, and dynamat everywhere would be best, but if you can't afford/don't want to deal with that, then put the subs in first and find then dynamat the rattles one by one. But covering the trunk and doors would be best.
