3rd Generation Viper 5601 and 508D help, 96 Camry

Hey guys! I thought it was about time to put some money into protecting what I've already put into my car... especially since I'll be in a big city known for crime for college next year.

I've been looking around at different systems, and I like the idea of having the "Invisibeam" system by Viper (model 508D). The good thing is that it hooks into most of their alarm systems and I found new ones online for around $20 or so. I've been looking at a few different models for the heart of the system. The 5601, 5701, and 5901. The 5901 is $200+, so thats a no go. And a aprrox. $50 premium for one two way remote on the 5701 system seems like too much. So I like the 5601 system. If anyone out there might wanna reccomend a different brand, please lemme know! On a fairly tight budget (no more than $200 total).

My question is, how hard is a Viper 5601 + Viper 508D setup to install in my 1996 Camry? What kind of undertaking is this to do it myself? Anyone done this install before or had any problems with it? I have no OEM alarm system, and i'm very skilled in electronics, soldering, etc. Yes, i've seen the various wiring diagram links around TN using the search, and I can probably find them again, so I think that's ok. Also, do i need a trunk solenoid? or is the 96 cam good to go as-is with the basic 5601 setup? Let me know!

you can look into Compustar or AutoPage alarms as well.

if you have never installed an alarm before, it will depend on how technical you are and how much you understand electionics. You will also need to make sure you have the correct tools to do the install correctly.
a simply light bulb test light to test wiring will not cut it. (test the wrong wire and you could cook a BCM or ECU or deploy SRS systems.

I cannot tell you how many times I have had a customer bring an alarm they TRIED to install them selves only to do more damage than good. had one customer actually do over 9000.00 worth of damage to his electrical systems before giving in and bring to us.

You need to find a good Shop with skilled installers in your area to do this install. Keep in mind that most shops will charge quite a bit more if you bring in something you bought elsewhere (especially online)
or if you attempt it and cannot finish it.

just some food for thought.

Electrical engineering and 12volt installation are two completely different birds. You may really want to consider having this done by a professional Install Tech.
