Question PROBLEM: '00 Solara - Keyless entry, cruise, alarm not working - long beep

I have a Solara SE V6 and now when I press the remote button, the alarm no longer arms but instead sends a long beep from the chirper for about 8 or 10 seconds.

Since this problem appeared:

-The remote will no longer unlock or lock the doors nor arm the Toyota alarm.

-The dome and map lights do not work

-The power door locks work fine, but they are not activated by the remote.

-The LED clock in the center-top dash is dark

What IS working:

-The dashboard security light still blinks when the car is off and indeed only a chip key will allow the car to start so that security system is active.

-Car stereo OK

-A/C, heating, and defrost are working OK

-All dash lamps working OK

I have replaced all fuses both under the dash and under the hood, but no change. I have tested the old and new fuses and all have good continuity.

If anyone has any insight as to what this issue is, I'd appreciate it. One of those things that is hard to take into repair since the car otherwise runs fine.

Thanks!!
Bill

If I'm not mistaken, the RS system lets out a prolonged chirp like the one you mentioned to warn of a door/trunk not closed. If one of your doors are ajar (or the alarm thinks it is) it won't arm and gives you that long beep.

Having said that, maybe on of your door switches are corroded, which is common, and sending a false signal to the alarm. Worth looking at.

one other thing it might be...you mentioned your dome light doesn't work either. Firstly, check the bulb. If it's okay perhaps there's a short in the dome light circuit aswell.

By the way, the dome light, the forward map light, and the trunk light all are not working.
