For wire I recommend Knuconceptz. You should be fine running 4ga for power.
For an amp remember that you will need 400w RMS @ 4ohm. Power ratings on amps go up as you decrease the resistance, so you will need a bigger amp than if you were running 400w RMS @ 2ohm.
A Sundown 1200D or Kicker zx1000.1 would both be good choices, actually they might both be a little more than you need, it depends on what type of enclosure you plan on running, sealed or ported, they would be better used if you are going sealed, if you are porting you could get away with sending it less power and still probably get louder than sealed.
At first i was thinking of getting a seal box but all iv been hearing is that they don't play lows that great and they sound to stuffed, and one of my friends has a ported box so i think i might just one of those, but thanks for the wires advice, the guy at best buy tried to sell me some garbage kind.

I think you have that a bit backwards. At a lower resistance the same amp will create more power. As an example my sub amp provides 220w RMS at 4ohms, but 400w RMS at 2 ohms. You want to wire the sub for the lowest resistance in ohms that your amp is stable to. Some only go down to 4 ohms, but most car audio amps are stable down to 2 ohms. If you hook an amp only stable down to 4 ohms to a 2 ohm load, it will either destroy itself or shut off in self protect.
any major brand that isn't sketchy is fine(except for sony, do not buy sony). Its about how much you want to pay. I like alpine amps personally. As far as the box, sealed is slightly more accurate and has slightly better SQ. You lose the really low end and some SP however. Basically, if you listen to rap/pop or love extra base, go ported. Rock, and most other genres will be better sealed.

I don't have it backwards, I just didn't write it very well, I think that you explained it better.
Yeah Sundown amps can be a pain to find used, you can check the major car audio forums, but they don't have much in the way of buyer protection, If you want to go with new try SoundSolutions or if you don't want to afford a new one CACO would be your best bet. DB-r also has a selection of refurbished amps to choose from, DB-r is Sundowns official repair house, they do all of Sundown's warranty work, so you know you can trust them, Also if you do happen to cook your amp after the warranty is up DB-r will rebuild it for around $100.
And as a note Sundown's mono amps are warrantied down to 1-ohm, but will do 0.5 ohm fine as well, that is the biggest reason I chose them over kicker in my car, well that and the customer service.
I have 2 10's running 1500w RMS @ 1ohm, each. I'm kinda curious what other people on here have.
That's sick, they must be pretty loud then,i cant wait to get my system finished and put into my car...this is my first system iv put together so i don't know much about them but iv been trying to learn more about em.
alright thanks man...what the system in your car?im gonna guess 2 12's?
I have one alpine type-r 12", in a custom fiberglass sealed enclosure. I don't listen to much rap/pop/ect., so the one sub provides plenty of low end for my needs. I also have 4 type-r speakers and an amp to drive them.
Yea, I work in a boat shop so I have fiberglass experience. Its done 100% by me. Here is a link to the thread with pictures of my whole install if you're interested.
dude thats sick, the aftermarket speakers must really make a difference,i like the fiberglass you used too,it looks neat.once i get my system somewhat together, ill post pics and let you know how it came out. I'm currently doing other stuff to the car like tinting the windows and stuff so it might take awhile for me to round up enough money to get the amp and wiring.
