Gen6 Corolla Alpine H/U issue

Since about 2 days ago, my stereo cuts off and on randomly...im thinking its probably a wire touching or something, no fuses have blown yet though...i have 2 amps, 2 subs, and pioneer/alpine speakers. the kenwood amp is hooked to the battery, and anohter batter wire is coming from the kenwood (powering the speakers) to the Crunch (driving the subs). hopefully its just a wire that is touching another wire, there are some splices that are held with tape. i wonder.....

well there's your first mistake! Not to be super critical, but I was like you in using electrical tape to cover your wire connections. One of my friends who helped me with my install said that that's old skool! You should use butt connectors. A lot easier and less of a chance of the tape coming off due to extreme heat and then shorting out your system. Butt connectors just simply hook on and then you crimp the ends. They look much more professional and easier to disconnect if you change out the head unit.

I can't stand butt connectors. If you are having issues with it shorting or disconnecting, just do it right the first time so you never have to mess with it again. Butt connectors are great for a quick fix, but just do it right, go to radio shack, get some solder, flux, an soldering iron and some shrink tube. The wires will never come apart and you will get a better quality connection in the long run. But this is just my 2 cents. I had a set of speakers "professionally" installed and they used butt splices... the first thing I did was rip it out and re wire it. Worst $180 I've ever spent.

I say re-wire all the connections using butt connectors, electric tape will not work at all, well to a certain point until it starts to fall off. In my opinion using butt connectors is less effort and least expensive than soldering every connection and plus the equipment to do that which will turn out to be like 2-4 times more expensive than buying a box of butt connectors and a crimp if you dont already have one laying around, and butt connectors works just as good as soldering them, and if theres an improvement between butt connectors and soldering every connections you probably wouldnt even notice the difference. please correct me if im wrong.
