Lightbulb Need advice on subwoofer/amp

I want to add some bass to my car - 01 Toyota Solara with Pioneer DEH-2100IB. My budget is around $250.

Amplifier ($140): Sony XMZR1852 800W 185x2 RMS or 400x1 RMS

Subwoofer ($40): Pioneer TS-W302R 12" 800W 150W RMS - I'm thinking either one or two of these.

-OR-

Subwoofer ($70): Sony 12" XSL121P5W 1200W 380W RMS - One of these

Plus wiring kit ($20) and enclosure (probably going to build myself).

Does this look like a decent setup? I want it to be pretty loud, I dont want to spend all of this money and end up with a system that doesnt stand out at all.

Which subwoofer/s would be better (ie. louder)?

Thanks!

250 is a pretty tight budget for getting some bump in the trunk.
This is as close as I could get to your budget. After a box and wiring you will be way out of your original budget but the stuff I have listed here is way better then what you were originally looking at.

RE Audio SE 10" woofer $149 free shipping
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-RE-AUDIO-SE1...3%3A1|294%3A50

Crunch 500w x 1@2ohm $125 free shipping
http://cgi.ebay.com/CRUNCH-PZi1000-1...3%3A1|294%3A50

I order all my wiring and accessory parts from http://www.darvex.com/
Same seller on ebay
http://myworld.ebay.com/bag-boy/
I can get you a 5% discount at darvex for this is wiring kit. $35
http://www.darvex.com/SQK4/Sound+Que...e+Amp+Kit.html

If you build your own box a sheet of MDF will run about $35 you will need screws and glue as well

You are looking at about 350 bucks for everything and that is everything. You will be very happy with this setup

Actually I just noticed you are from Cincinnati. I have a really good friend up there who builds some kick ass enclosures and does excellent install work. If you get serious about it he would be a great guy to get hooked up with. He actually lives in Harrison which is west of cinci.

Also this is a good tool for building a vented enclosure. Low tuned enclosures are the best in my opinion. This calculator gives you a cut list too which really helps if you are not very familiar with box building.

I would avoid sony at all costs...with either their head units, speakers, amps or subs. They're just not as good as their previous models. i would go with Re Audio subs as a previous person posted. Those pioneers you listed are usually good for when you have a limited amount of space, but you're not going to get much bump with that line of pioneer subs.

As far as power wiring thickness, I think you can get away with just 4ga wiring as you said, you're only looking for some bump and not go crazy with the bass. The cost of the wiring for the amp and sub also is determined by how many amps your factory alternator puts out. Usually one these import cars, the alternator is rather tinny. My corolla only has a 70a alt and I tend to get lights dimming when I crank up the volume and I've got 1ga power wiring, bigger battery.
