Speaker set up/installation

I am installing a new set of speakers in my 2007 Corolla. I've already removed the old ones, but I'm having trouble with two things. How to mount the new tweeters and where to put the new crossover. The set I have for the front speakers are Alpine SPX-13PRO, I know that the woofer rub if I max out the speakers so I will modify the width of the opening for that, but I can figure out how to mount the tweeters. I still have the old ones and the mounts that they sit on, which I figure I will have to use, so if anyone has any experience mounting new tweeters I would appreciate it, as well as where they hid their crossover box.

Thanks for the help.

I'm not familiar with the corolla setup but I will tell you my experience with dealing with component speakers. There are probably two common schools of thought when dealing with crossover placement and that would either be place them near the speakers or place them near the amp.
My suggestion is to get some this

Run the bi wire to your comp set from your crossover that would be easily concealed close to your amp. The other simple suggestion would be to place them somewhere in your door but that has never worked for me.

I can't help you with the tweet placement as I am unfamiliar with the factory location of the tweeters in your corolla so maybe somebody else can help there. In my camry they have them placed right inside the side mirror location above the door panel. I know a lot of people are not happy with the sound of direct factory replacement components because the tweeter is so far away from the woofer which separates the sound but it seems to be the easiest for installing.

Good Luck

Thanks for the info! Is an amp necessary to run the crossover? If it is, then I'll have to get one. I'm going to spend some time playing with mounting the tweeters in the stock location. It's just gunna end up being a completely custom install I'm afraid. I guess its just the price paid for a higher end audio system... good thing I'm decent with a hammer

Did you ever end up installing the tweeters? I have a 2006 corolla and Im looking at in stalling the Alpine SPS-600C's. They also have the tweeter separate and was wondering how / if they fit inside of the stock grill or just how that whole situation would work to begin with.

well when you're installing components with a separate tweeter, it's highly recommended to run an amp, otherwise if you aren't planning on hooking up an amp for speakers, it's just simpler to run coaxials off of your aftermarket head unit.

Really? I've never heard that before? Whats the reason? I'm not doubting that, I'm just curious.

component speakers are usually rated higher to handle more power than with most coaxials, so an amp is usually recommended...an aftermarket unit alone would be for medium priced coaxial speakers. But I have seen some coaxials as being high rated such as around 100-120 rms watts.
