ok so i have a 96 toyota avalon. i upgraded the four speakers and the subwoofer....Im new to this car audio thing, i have no knoledge lol. BUT, my queastion is what kind of amp should i use to power them up. The 4 door speakers have 35 watts RMS and 70 watts peak each and the subwoofer has 200 RMS and 400 watts peak. how many watss should the amp should have? my budget $200. Thanks alot
Ideally the amps ratings should be as close to the speaker ratings as possible, but an amp with slightly higher ratings should be fine so long as you know not to crank it up past what the speakers can handle. It's always better to have more power than you need than not enough. Not having enough power will cause clipping, which isn't good for the speakers or amp.
Given those power ratings there should be a lot of amps in your price range. There are even some 5 channel amps designed to power 4 speakers and a smaller sub like the one you have.
I have had great experiences with Infinity amps, but they might be a bit out of your price range unless you don't mind shopping on eBay. TheInfinity 5350a is a 5 channel amp that should treat you well. There are a ton of other good amps out there too, and I'm sure others will share advice about what they like, and those will likely be more within your budget.

match the rms wattage or more. that plays your speakers at their best. But it's not necessary to have all the power to make a system run. you can always under power your speakers, and your system will play. your question is so vague, so I can only give you a vague answer. good luck!

Hmm...Yeah you right gideon. Ima check ebay lol , I haven't shop there before, but i'll give it a try and see what can i find ...Thanks alot men...Really helped me out with this.
It's where I get all my car audio stuff...it is way cheaper for amps/speakers than even an online store. Just make SURE it's not used...there's no telling what anyone did to it previously...

well for ease of use, you can look into getting a 5 channel amp...4 channels will power your speakers and the 5th channel will power your sub but usually the power to the sub isn't that much...like 200-300 rms watts. You can go with a dual amp setup, but usually that puts a big load on your battery which would make you either upgrade the battery to a high capacity such as an Optima Yellow top or Kinetik HC battery or upgrading the alternator.
Like what was posted before, you can just get a mono amp to power a sub and get a high rated head unit to power the speakers...I have a kenwood excelon x493 powering my speakers and a lanzar opti 1400d mono amp powering my Sound Stream T5 sub in a 3 cu.ft. vented box. I wanted to have another amp powering my speakers, but that would mean a bigger alt and my 7th generation rolla only has a 70a alt...too expensive to go and get a 120a or 150a alt..
