I got to thinking today...

After hearing a lot about people getting hit in parking lots while they weren't at their cars, a question popped into my head. Would it be possible to get the rearview cameras on Siennas and RXes that have them to stay on and record as part of the alarm system?

I know you'd have to hook in a recorder and that the battery would take a serious hit, but if you can get the plates of someone who hits you in a parking lot and drives off, it may be worth it.

Just something to consider, eh?

this in theory could work, but, have you ever tried to report a hit in a parking lot if the driver leaves? its not exactly easy.

my neighbor's car got hit last year in a parking lot, someone saw the whole thing, and got the tags, but the cops were bastards about it. she had to pay $25 for a tag look up, which took a month, and when she found out who it was, the cops still wouldnt do anything about it. never got a clear explanation why

Good idea, but not feasable. The cost of the equipment, not to mention labour to rig up such a contraption would make it cost prohibative. Pay the $300 deductable to repaint the car and move on.
