component system question...?

I have a soundstream 5.25" component system.

I'm thinkin' about installing them for the front sound stage in my 89 Camry. Question is:
would it make a big difference if the tweeter and mid-bass were not facing the same direction? the tweeter would fire forwards while the mid-bass driver would fire somewhat downward.

thanx a bunch...Paul

tweeters are very directional and should fire towards you, if not at least the center of the car. And why will your midrange be firing downward???

the speaker pod that is stock in the 89 Camry houses a 3" 2 way speaker with a 5.25" passive radiator. The 3" fires somewhat downward in it's stock location while the passive radiator fires downward to the floor mats. I will plan to fabricate some type of way to put the tweeter where the 3" goes and angle it to fire towards the center of the car. Unfortunately though, the 5.25" mid-bass will still fire down ward due to the mounting postion on the speaker pod.

so since both speakers will not be facing the same direction, will it affect sound quality a lot..?

thanx, Paul

i really doubt that having the midrange firing somewhat down will affect the sound since it is already positioned near you legs or feet anyway, but i would definately have the tweeter fire towards the center.

well....basically as the frequency increases, the importance of speaker imaging increases. Take a sub for instance, it doesnt matter whether or not its facing froward or backward, it still is loud and clear. However if you face a tweeter toward you and then away from you, there will be a big difference.

The imaging will be way off. A component set is not the same as a coaxial speaker and a stand alone tweeter. They need to be set up properly in order to sound normal. Depending on the component set you may hear a high loss of quality with that setup.
