McIntosh and Morel speakers

I have a 2000 Camry and I plan to upgrade my front speakers. I found two brands that I like. McIntosh and Morel. So have any one used the McIntosh MSX486 Coaxial 6-1/2" speakers and Morel Tempo 6 Component 6-1/2" speakers? Any difference between those two speakers? Or which speaker is better? Thanks

both of those are excellent brands. i personally would go with the morels just because they are components. Just make sure you get a really good amp for these speakers

Yes, usually in most cases. But I've seen coax's outperform components too. It all depends on your ear. the best thing to do is listen to them, and you be the judge. You will be listening to that stuff for the life of it or until you sell it. Usually the big difference in the speaker sound will be the tweeter. It will be made of metal of material. I personally like the sound of metal because it's much more crisp and sharp. Unlike the material type tweeter has a more smoother sound and not as crisp. I tried explaining it without blowing it up to much. But good luck!

now the questions always how much do you want to spend? I say a good tweeter that doesn't cost too much, but isn't cheap is the level of MB quart's. I haven't kept up with all the brands but the audiophiles can fill you in, I believe. A decent tweeter should cost you about 150 to 250 bucks and should come with a variable crossover at the least. The only tweeter that I also liked was this other brand named Crystals. they were a cheaper imitation of the MB quarts. But they scream too. Sorry I'm stuck on MB quartz, and I love the sound quality of these babies. I had mines for about 12 years and going. Good Luck! Anybody know some other good brands of metal types of tweeters?

I plan to spend $150 on tweeter. If I get coaxial speakers and do I need to add another tweeter? Thanks

you can but you are better off just buying component set speakers then. It would be better matched, and you woofer would probably provide more bass since there are no tweeters built into the woofer. If your coaxial speakers are not clean or doesn't add enough definition to your sound, I suggest for you to just get a component set speakers. This would be probably cheaper or the same amount as the tweeters and a coaxials put together.

But just to answer your question, no you don't have to get another tweeter. The coaxial should come with a woofer and a tweeter together as one speaker.

For coaxials, there is the Kenwood KFC 1652S, I think this is the new model of my old coaxial back in the day. They matched my MB Quart component speakers at that time. These coaxials are really underated, but I would listen to them for your self. For the price you can't go wrong. good luck!

You may want to go in a shop to listen to some tweeters first and decide whether you like metal or silk tweeters. It's a very personal matter - what sounds good to one person may sound horrible to another. My friend put MB Quart components in his car and though they were the best thing in the world. I thought they were very harsh. He listened to my Arc Audio components and thought they weren't bright enough.

It can distort the sound stage if they're far apart.

that's why all systems with more then one tweeter, I always seen the tweeter mounted side by side. It depends on the contour of your door, and what angle your tweeters will end up facing. The end picture, you want them aiming for one spot. The sound stage shouldn't get effected then, I think?
