sometime after i'm playing the music for a little while (loud like normal ), the bass will cut out, the rest of the music is there, just not the sub. i'm guessing the amp is getting overheated and going into protection mode or something of the sort?
oh btw i got a fusion 15" with kenwood 1000W 2ch. bridged for it, and 4ch. amp for the speakers.
how long has it been doing this, if it just started your woofer might be blown because the coil could be rubbing..If it always happened then the amp goes into protection mode like you said...

Something similar happened to me. The wire that connected to the cone thingy was frayed and arcing. I was going nuts trying to figure out what was causing my amps to go into protection irraticly. It just so happened that I was messing around with my subs during the evening when it was dark outside that I noticed the arcing . Otherwise, there's no way I would have figured it out. I just soldered the wire and put in my fav Celine Dion CD

What everyone on here has said is possible, but 9 times out of 10 it's just the amp clipping.
-It doesn't sound like a blown sub to me.
-It's possible to be a faulty connection, but not likely to cause these problems. That is simple enough to look for when you are turning down the gains on the amp.
-And for the power wire, it sounds like this was a professional install. If he set up two amps in his car and figured out how to wire it all up with the distroblock I'd assume he'd know what a clipping amp was.
So by process of elimination, the problem is most likely just a clipping amp.
not sure if it always happened. the wires might be stuffed, when i bought the sub and box together from the shop, one of the connectors on the box was loose, will take the sub out tomorrow avro and have a look. i have 4G coming from the battery. i'll also adjust the bass down a bit, for a little while it feels like there hasnt been as much bass as previously (i think it happened after the connector came off completely one time so bass cut out), so i've upped the gains and bass boost, though the lack of bass could be just me.
this install was done by me and my dad, but was without doubt of professional quality (he's an engineer and fastidious about such things). i have a general idea of what clipping is, but a unsure as to what it will sound like?
also, to set the seen a bit more, it does it (cut out) after about half an hour in this hot afternoon weather, i think it lasts longer at night. if i turn the system off for a minute of two, it will come back on for a bit, and the longer i leave it off for, the longer it will play. all this is leading me to beleive it is a heat problem (ie cooler at night, shut it dow for longer=more time to cool).
P.S. it never happened with my 2 12"s
thank you everyone for replies, keep them coming, i would like to solve this problem
check the ohm stable on the amp and make sure it isnt lower than the wiring that you have.. that will make the amp over heat quicker especially if you arent using a mono block amp.

also, i lowered the bass boost and gains, and at the same volume it was cuttin out at previously, doesnt appear to, but then at a higher volume, after a while, will.
put the gain at about 90% of highest level.. leave your vehicle off for a while.. and let the amp get really cold.. turn on your system and turn up the volume as loud as it will go.. if it works fine for a few minutes.. the amp ohm stable is wrong just like i said..lol

as an update to my audio problems, sometimes today the whole sound will cut out, on the head unit it says its still playing but no sound. if i turn it off, then turn back on about 30sec later, it will be fine. note this is not when playing the system excessively loud.
