Question Rear Speaker Terminals (in trunk)

On my 2010 S model, at the rear terminals for the speakers, there is 1 RED wire and 1 Black wire, per speaker. Which wire is positive and which one is negative?

I was installing a PAC Trunk LOC (line-out converter) this weekend and I needed to tap into the rear speaker wires in order for the LOC to have a signal to run an RCA style wire to the aftermarket amp. Anyway, I took my best guess and called the RED wire POSITIVE and the BLACK wire NEGATIVE.

I have everything hooked up and it sounds pretty good but I just want to make sure so I can stop thinking about it. I did a search on here and people have said the rear speakers are are different colors, and they may very well be, just not directly at the speaker terminals in the trunk.

Also, has anyone else used the PAC Trunk LOC with the stock headunit? I wanted to know what were the perfect settings on the LOC itself. I left them alone for now, and again it sounds good, but I would like to make it optimum, if possible.

Thanks, Jason

As a general rule of thumb, red is always positive and black is always negative. In a perfect world.

The majority of the time, this is the case.

Speakers will still work if you hook positive to negative and vice versa. Sound will come out. It just won't be correct, and I'm sure it's somehow bad for the speakers.

I'm not 100% on this, but wouldn't the cone just move in the opposite direction with the polarity crossed?

You are right. I think I can apply voltage to each terminal and watch which direction the cone moves to figure out which side is positive and negative.

Again, I went with the RED is POSITIVE and BLACK is NEGATIVE and it seems to work fine in my case. However, I just want to be sure so I can tidy up all the wiring back there as I have my LOC just sitting on the sub box until I verify everything is correct.

Thanks for the reply.

Your assumptions were correct.

This is the FOR SALE Section guys.

I'm moving this to the proper audio/video tech section.
