Front Speakers in 95 Corolla

Hey guys,

I just bought a 95 Corolla and am looking to put some new speakers up front. I have a pretty good background in car audio but this one has seemed to stump me.

The front speakers in the car are stock 4", i'm looking to put in my 6.5" Alpines. The mount hole in the door is pretty small so of course the speakers won't fit. I was thinking about cutting the sheet metal to fit them in but then i wouldn't be able to use the stock mounting bracket either.

If anyone has done a mod to fit these speakers in i would love to hear from you. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Colton

what is the mounting depth of your 6.5"??

I have these 4" 3way lanzar speakers and they barely fit with the mounting depth that they have...they barely clear the window when it's all the way down:

Hey gamerguru,

I'm trying to squeeze Alpine type R 6.5" components in there. The mounting depth on them is 2.5". I looked up those Lanzar's and they mount in 1.75".

So that sucks for me, i think i might still be able to make them work with an adapter plate to bring them out of the door a bit. But my big problem then will be the diameter, the magnet doesn't even fit in the stock hole in the door. I'd have to start cutting the door apart and I'm not sure i want to jump into that unless some one has done it and says it works ;-P.

Probably going to have to get a set of 5.25" and see if i can squeeze them in.

If you take out the stock mounting plate you can screw 5.25" directly to the metal in the door. I had a set of infinity components that I did that with, then drilled out a hole for the tweeter in the top of the door panel. The window may hit the speaker magnet (mine were just too deep) but I didn't care about the last 3" of window movement.

You could fabricate a mounting bracket, but it never bothered me enough to put forth the effort. It sounded good, and the window never damaged the magnet so I left it be.

I would say 5.25" components would work if you can find some with a mounting depth around 1.75"...yeah 6.5" might be too wide unless you actually cut out the grille cover from the door panel. Then you could use the actual grille cover that comes with speakers. That might require a little more work to make it look flush with the inside door paneling.

I've tried searching for 5.25" and 6.5" components with a bottom mount depth of around 1.75" but some sites don't list that information.
