I just got a 2004 camry V6 2 months ago, which comes with a JBL system. I'm finding that there is static everytime i put the volume really high! This only happens to songs with a lot of bass, and doesn't happen for the rest. Is there something wrong with it or is that normal?
I took it to toyota and basically, they won't replace the speakers.
Umm .. I have to disagree. You need a different amp to keep distortion down. Distortion comes from the amp. You need to buy an outboard amp and wire it up. An aftermarket CD player will also help by providing a good clean signal w/ RCA outputs to the amp. You can adds lots of power and it will be clearer at lower volume. The only thing you can really do to the speaker is melt it or pop it out. (It won't do that rattle noise that a speaker that was blown because of distortion will do.) I've powered OEM speakers many of times with 30 and 40 W RMS with no problem. Just be sure you put a HPF on it to keep the base out.
You buy an amp with lots of power .... distortion happens at full power otherwise the amp is usually clean. In order to play distortion free at his current sound level he needs an amp that is bigger. That amp will only play at say 20% or 30% of full power and will have very little distortion. He will also have lots of extra to make it even louder. Make sense?
Some people have told me that it could be that my CD is of shittie quality.. (because they're burnt). But then i tried original CDs that you buy from the store and i still get static when the base is heavy in some songs. I'm gonna test an amp and see what that does. But it can be very annoying when you wonna enjoy the music on a high volume. There is a lot of static on some songs... but thats only on some songs. Other songs are fine.
One of the reasons why i paid more for this car is because i'm very picky about sound systems. And when i heard it was a JBL 6 disc CDchanger, i was like.. damn i have to get this! There's definately a lot of base on this deck but i just hate the static.
Thanks for the help guys! I realllyyyyy appreciate it! I thought maybe the deck was deffective!
The suggestions being made that the stock speaker quality (or lack there of) and amplification and poor CD signals are the culprits are all valid. However, you'll never get the bass that you want from puny 6x9s at high volumes.
You might consider upgrading the stock speakers first. If your budget allows it, compliment them with an auxillary 4 channel amp. As time goes on, and your wallet recovers, add a subwoofer and another amp for those low tones that you're craving. Be forewarned...audio upgrades are addictive - ask any basshead
