DVD Video Disk format

Can't find anything in the owners manual about what format DVD's can be played from the rear entertainment system.

I inserted a DVD-R that I had a recorded a movie onto in .AVI format. All I get is on the screen is "DVD Seek". Nothing loads. Zip.

When I go into the owners manual it says only use DVD Video Disk. Then it goes on to say that these products may not be playable on your player:

SACDs
Copy-Protected CSs
CD-ROMs
DVD-Rs
DVD+Rs
DVD-RWs
DVD+RWs
DVD-ROMs
DVD-RAMs

Doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever. I have the ability to burn DVD's into different formats such as mpg or **** but I need to figure out where to get this info. Thanks for the help.

When you burn a CD or DVD there are various burn methods to choose from, and some of them are very specific depending on the player used. When you burn your DVD, choose the UDF (Universal Disk Format) burn method so the DVD will be readable in most DVD systems. Also, you'll have to convert that .avi file to one of several formats, for example: VCD, SVCD, MPEG1, or MPEG2. Do a Google search for software out there, especially freeware, that will allow you to convert that .avi file to another format before burning the DVD.

Thanks TrailDust. After rereading the manual I see where it says the system uses the MPEG2 method. This is no problem since I already have the necessary software to convert. Again, thanks.

Cool, glad to be of help. Good that you already have the conversion software on hand, that makes things fast and easy.
