Installing New Radio/Speakers

Hi All,
I just picked up a 99 Camry LE. I am looking to replace the radio and add some subs. I have been doing some looking online for a radio and was wondering how the existing speaker system is setup. The car has 6 speakers, 2 tweeters, 2 in the doors and 2 6x9s in the rear. I am assuming the 2 tweeter and 2 in the front doors are a component package and this is the first Toyota I have owned. Does anyone know if the crossover for the tweeters are separate or built into the factory receiver. It has been some time since I have been playing with car stereos and all the ones on the aftermarket are still only 4 speaker outputs. I need to know if I have to buy a new crossover for the tweeter/door speakers, or I can use a crutchfield wiring kit with just 4 speaker outputs and the factory crossover will separate the tweets/doors. Since I can't afford to change the speakers at the same time and need to do this in pieces I can't afford to blow any speakers. Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott

The two tweeters up front are just wired inline with the door speakers, which are full range, not components. The tweeters themselves are high-passed inline through capacitors.

Thanks for the reply. So they are inline with door speakers, so your stating when I pull out the radio only 4 sets of speaker wires will be present? I just want to have all the parts and pieces I need before starting this.

Yes, you will only see 4 pairs of wires from the harness. If you replace the headunit, make sure you get something like Metra's pocket 8800-8000 if you install a DIN radio to fill in the open hole, and 70-1761 harness.

Nothing like bringing a good old thread back to life!

After I helped my son replace the receiver in his '97 Camry XLE, he managed to blow the tweeters. The wiring at the receiver was as described in this thread--standard eight wire (counting + & -).

My question is: What type of speakers are drop-in replacements (electronically, not physically) for the four in/on the doors? Apparently not "component".

Thanks for bearing with someone whose first sound upgrade was adding an FM tuner to the AM radio in the family car.

Any 4-ohm rated speakers will be fine. You CAN add components if you like, some have the axial mount right over the midbass driver, otherwise, you can get a backstrap and bend it to shape like the factory ones and mount the tweeters that way, so the cover can still work. Of course, you'll need to run wires to/from the crossover, which should be able to be mounted inside the door panel...somewhere, otherwise, you'll have to fish wires through the door grommet, which may not be too easy.
