Power draw

This is probably a really dumb fresh question so pleaze don't bite my head off. OK I have a '95 camry 4cyl and i plan on putting in two alpine type r 12's. The amp everyone says is a good match for these is the alpine mrd-m1000. However my question is will this slightly large amp be to much for my electrical system(alt, battery, whatever else) which is totally stock. If so any suggestions for improvements so my lil 'yoda can handle it and won't pass away on me. thanks in advance

No one can tell for sure. What size alternator do you have? Remember your car is almost 10 years old and you may need to upgrade your alt before doing this. The Alpine amps are fairly effecient so it's not as bad as hooking up a JBL1200 to your system. I would recommend installing it as is and then seeing if you start to have any problems. If you do upgrade your alt you may want to add a cap if necessary.

ok.......it all depends on how much watts you are willing to draw. Since that amp is a 1000 watts at 2 ohms and 500 watts at 4 ohms then you just need to remember that for every 500 watts you need to install a 1/2 farad capacitor. That will prevent your lights from diming and your alternator to be "knocked out". I would put a cap in just to be on the safe side. I mean there's nothing worse then driving on the highway at night and lights go out. ha. Believe me.. i know from experience ha.

A cap won't do much of anything unless his alt is strong enough which it doesn't sound like it will be. If you have headlight dimming replace your alt first and if that doesn't do enough for you then get a cap.

The alt I believe is 70 amps, could be 80. I am hoping it will be enough so I won't have to get the new one, course i'm not even sure how much a new one would cost. So I should just try it out without doing anything and if I get dimming then to upgrade the bigger alt? sorry for the trouble...thanks
