What happen to Eclipse?

Doesn't seem to be hardly any Eclipse double din\navi headunits around anymore? None at several of the big web stores, they all say "discontinued". There are 3 double din units currently on the Eclipse website.

Anyone know what's going on? Are they getting ready to release new models, or is this line fading away, or........?? Is Eclipse going out of business, did a dingo eat your baby?

I was thinking about one because of the ability to keep the steering wheel controls without the extra doo dad needed with other brands.

There is some speculation that they are repositioning their product into a "higher class" item. There are others who say that due to the current downturn they are literally bleeding red. Touringcamry is correct his statement on Eclipse. Don't know if they are coming back or staying out of consumer electronics.

I would recommend if you like Eclipse; starting buying them from Ebay; They will soon be a rare item.

to the previous poster, IF! I bought my eclipse avn-5495 in rexburg! my fav audio shop is in IF! Ideal audio!! but im out in NYC now...

dont mean to bump an old thread but i have the avn-5495, a double din eclipse unit and it has been great. although i had a big issue where the CD/DVD stopped reading any type of disc and had to completely remove the whole unit and ship it back to them. took 2 weeks to get it fixed and mailed back. quite a bit of a hassle and the map updates can only be done at their factory.
my maps are 5 years old and i have to take the unit out and mail it back for a $350+ map update. expensive and a hassle; not worth it. i wont be getting another eclipse unit again.

Ideal Audio are good installers; they are working on my system right now. From what I heard all the avns series are a pain to update. I am just using their CD player and the USB connector so hopefully avoiding all the servo issues they had to.

I hope they still support their existing product for awhile. I spent 1200 bucks on the AVN 726e several months back and I'd hate to lose support with maps or any other updates in the future.

future support is the risk taken for current consumers purchasing a product from a company which is leaving a market in a certain region...hopefully they can compensate the consumer for taking this risk by lowering the selling price.
