Hmmm............. that's pretty sweet.

Most likely using an EPIA motherboard.

Very versatile.

I started a project last year, but then was called out of town for most of that year. For a pretty reasonable budget, I can set up a PC rig in almost any car. Hopefully this year I can have some prepared packages and solutions. EPIAs are nice because of their tiny footprint and low cooling requirements.

I think my original inception was a DX/100 running D.AMP connected to a 2x16 line LCD in my little 1986 celica. That was pretty long ago and it worked nicely. MP3's organized in directories and everything.

My friend built a wireless network in his Sentra SER Spec-V for a school project! Eventually the project was demonstrated in class instead of in the car itself, but it worked very well! I don't know if he came arounf to installing it in the car. He had a removable HDD so he could take home update or do work on and then return to the car.

I personally loved the idea..

Ekam, this isn't anything new. As time passes, advances in technology makes it easier and more economical to achieve things that weren't feasable in the past.

Gibson of CMPL had a Carputer years ago and peeps at http://www.mp3car.com/ have been at the forefront for years.

My dream is to have a carputer one day. I'd have a wireless network, voice command, touchscreen, GPS, MP3, vid, gaming etc. It really isn't as expensive as one might think. The hardest part is finding suitable screens and peripherals (ie. mouse, keyboards, IR remotes, pwr supply). Alot of these problems have been solved now though.

And if you're interested in converting stock Navi to vid, here are the details for Acura

I have a friend who put a computer in his Fiero which is also hooked up to engine for tuning/diag. He made his own custom dash and just popped a laptop in it I think. He has internet through his cell phone and wired up the sound system through it as well for DVD. I think this is all he's done thus far for the computer but I'm not too sure. I'll see if I can find some links from his Fiero forums which has some more information and how-to/pictures of his setup.

This LCD install is nothing at all creative or out of the ordinary.
