you need a crossover to send only the high frequency signals to the tweeters. I would recommend amplifying the interior speakers also. If you cant afford it, downgrade on the low end of your system, you are going to drown out any of the real music

to be honest, the best way to go about this is to actually return the infinity speakers you got and buy a component speaker set. This comes with a separate woofer and tweeter, along with everything you need to connect it to the amp. If you can, I would go that route.. It will not only make install and tuning easier, but it will sound better too.

yup agree with mrsoohoo. and the new components probably have better speaker components too, being that it's newer.

well, you could try to find some tweeters that will match your mids/mid-basses and some crossovers that match. Your best best would be to make a post over at http://www.diymobileaudio.com/ they seam to be the most knowledgeable when it comes to sound quality. http://www.realmofexcursion.com/ can help you with a box for the woofers, and http://caraudio.com/forum/forum.php can help you with racist jokes.

or you could run the tweeters and mids/mid-basses active, which means each speaker on a separate channel of a four channel amp, if you pick a four channel amp with built in crossovers you can adjust them until they sound good. basically it costs more, but you gain tuning ability, either way it will sound much better with the components on an amp instead of run from the head unit.

ported ftw!

With ported, you also don't need a lot of power to make it loud such as if you have a sub that supports 1000 rms watts, having an amp that puts out 750 rms watts will still sound pretty loud. It also depends on the specs of the sub and the inside dimensions of your box.

But for sound quality, most people go with sealed which requires lots of power.

If you do decide to go bandpass which was popular in the 80's, custom build a bandpass box. The prefabs sound like crap because they were designed with specific dimensions and only output certain frequencies.

One thing to add with going with ported, is that the size of ported box is larger then the sealed box. So if space is a factor, that's another thing to look at.

Your port is going to be too large should be 4 inches
# Sealed Box Volume (cubic feet) 0.75 - 1.25
# Ported Box Volume (cubic feet) 1.79
# Port diameter (inches) 4
# Port length (inches) 10

he might be using a software to help him size his box. so it's probably telling him a 6" port? because he wants to reduce the length, most likely.
