Originally posted by finese1 Thats true too. I mean this why i posted. I just wanted to know if some of my ideas are good. I don't want to chop my car if i dont need to. But 4 of any compenets right now ain't gonna cut it. I mean if wanted just sound quality i would have bought kickers ss series and that's it. Used my Vega subs and that would do it. Tell me if that ain't good sound quality. I'm tryin to get the same quality wit a different set of subs. Not exactly. But just want some good sound.
If you're looking for the full speaker/sound setup why not get a three peice component set? The CDT CL641s come with two 3 way speakers (6.5" and 4" i believe) and a tweeter. That should be enough for your highs. You can get them for under $250 online I bet.
How is this guy gonna say i don't got the cash to do it. Why they hell would even think about putting it if i didn't have the cash. Trust me i will spend the money if it is good. But i ain't gonna buy it cause it 500 dollars and neva heard it. It's like they old polk subs. To me the sucked o man. But them shits was some cash. But the new Momo it's a lot better. You gotta hear it to buy. It's like buyin a premium sound system without hearin it. Some of them are like 1500 and they ain't that good. See hear in new york everbody bass so i went got a lot of bass and now i'm like oh shit i need to back it up. LIke i said i like the kicker as far as the highs go play great but the mids are still underplayed by the bass. The front pair it is something i am gonna change. Tweeters tomorrow.
If you go with a 3 piece component set, I suggest putting the 6.5"s in the door, 4" in kickpods... not sure where to put the tweeter, perhaps with the 4" in the kickpod. Definately need a sub if not two to reach the entire spectrum of sound that we can hear, but of course we know where to put that, in the trunk, unless you're good at custom work and can fit them onto the rear deck. Also remember you're going to need a lot of sound dampening and also buy the best quality speaker wire and RCA cables that you can find since you're doing an SQ system.

Exactly, you can't demo most CDT products. They aren't in a lot of stores. People rave about Bostons online as well and to me they sound flat and hold no depth.
It is true that online people will say any product is good. This is mostly because most people don't have anything to compare it to other than their stock system.

I agree, but will expand on it.
People who go online for advice in purchasing speakers and take other people's word for it without hearing them tend to be fairly ignorant (not in a bad sense) of audio equipment. Audio is all personal opinion and everyone has different likes and dislikes. These are the same people who go on these forums and post a million threads about how such and such speaker is great because other people on the forum say so. They may have them or heard them as well, but they don't realize there is more to the car audio world than that. There are hundreds of speaker companies out there. When you go online and ask for advice each forum has their two or three speaker brands/models they always tell people is the best thing out there and they have to get them because everything else is crap compared to them. They may be decent speakers or equipment, but how do you know it's the best thing for you if you haven't gone out and listened to everything before hand? We can all walk into a car audio store and listen to their top three component sets and each disagree on which one sounds the best. Yet, when you go to these forums people just recommend one brand. I personally would never buy speakers over the internet because someone told me they are good. There's just too much out there that I can listen to and I feel I can make up my own mind for myself as should other people.
I used to post on car audio forums, but then I got tired of dealing with the sixteen year old kids who knew nothing of what they were talking about. They got some stuff installed in their car and now they think they're experts and recommend everyone else do what they did and buy equipment blindly over the internet. I personally have never bought any car audio equipment over the internet and I feel I have saved money because of it. I found the best audio shop in town and stuck with them the entire time. Sent them some referrels and now I can get items for less than or the same price as the online market. I also have a place to take my equipment to if anything should happen. I'm not saying everyone should buy their equipment from shops, but I think they should at least visit a few and listen to all of their equipment first. If they did just that I doubt they would buy any product online they hadn't heard because they would understand there is so much out there and just because something is expensive doesn't mean they're going to like it.

You're very very right, but the main reason i threw the CL-61a's out as a suggestion is because they're readily available, competitively priced, and sound pretty good. I've heard quite a few sets of components ranging from Rockford Fosgates oldschool Fanatic series to the Alpine Type R's to to the Focal Utopias and even a pair of ID compression horns...
It was merely a suggestion and there's no requirement to listen to it. And given the economical value of the CDT's I figured, I'd throw it out on the table for our little discussion here.

But sometimes they do, especially when you're buying the time of a talented installer.
In any case, do not forget to supply your components with an ample supply of power. Think in terms of headroom. After all, they are going to have to keep up with your subs.
