I have a 02 corolla le. I just ordered a remote starter for my car and wish that one of you know-how people can provide me with some tip and instructions on installation. Please holla back. thanks a bunch. BTW the starter i bought was DEI Rattler 369D, one sold in CircuitCity.
i would get professional install. There are a lot of really bad potential problems if install goes wrong. Especially with circuit city remote starts. Even just reading the reviews on the remote start products at cc's website, people that bought from circuit city have claimed their car engines just decide to start themselves whenever they want to. do a search on remote start, you'll get a few threads to read and find out what im talking about.
Perhaps the best remote starters are Viper. But that isn't too cheap.

For domelight supervision use one of the individual door triggers.

I'd highly recommend professional install, as stated previously the repercusions are severe. I doubt you want your corolla stuck in the garage because it won't start. Also you tap into the main harness and if you make a mistake, the harness is ruined. A lot harder then say hooking up speakers or sound installs. For the $150 it's probably not worth it even if you have a decent know-how of electrical wiring. I've done a ton of sound system installs and I'm a studying eng. and I still wouldn't touch it. If you have a existing alarm I've heard it's much easier, but you will probably need a by-pass module, if Corollas come with chips in the keys. If you do attempt it yourself, I'd recommend reading everything you can possibly find on it first. Good Luck

Directed (DEI), the company that makes the 369D, is also the parent company of Viper. The Viper 130XV is virtually the same thing as the 369D. No worries there, good stuff.
Installing a remote start/KE is not that difficult -- it is similar to wiring a stereo; it's just that the wires you're cutting/splicing/soldering are vital to the operation of your vehicle. However, with that said, it will take you a good amount of time to install. You'll want to set aside the better part of a weekend to get the job done if you've never done this before.

If you're a studying engineer who won't touch it, what makes you think those guys at the shop would know more? At least you understand the basics of Kirchoff's current laws and nodal analyses.

The guide that I posted directly from DEI indicates there is NO need for a transponder bypass for that year of the Corolla.
Originally posted by grapefury hehe.. parent company.. ford is the parent company of Mercedes. big difference between the 2 companies? yea.. i would think so..
Um... I did not know that. Are you sure Ford is the parent company of Mercedes? *confused*
But I digress... the relationship between Rattler and Viper and all the other DEI brands is much closer than a "Ford-Mercedes" relationship (maybe you meant Chrysler and Mercedes?). DEI is known to make the same alarm available under different brand models. For example, the Viper 550 ESP is the same thing as the Sidewinder 6500ESP. Same exact parts, remote might have a different logo on it. That's about it. Same circuit board inside... I think DEI has started putting logos on the actual alarm unit now, but way back when... it used to just say DEI on it, regardless of what sub-brand you had.
hey cokeclassic... don't let Luc scare you. No KCL/nodal analysis needed to install an alarm. Besides, engineering doesn't teach you anything practical... this is the stuff you pick up on weekends... hehe
Sometimes I think I'd rather have a pro install things for me... this is one of those cases. Because when you fuck up the install (if you attempt it) and you probably will fuck up at some point, you'll feel like an idiot...
Kind of like my system install... never finished it cause I ran into a problem running the wires. Maybe this weekend I'll fix it though.

I just installed this alarm in my third car. I have a Autopage RS-750. Pretty good. I am very happy with it. I couldn't afford the Viper one. As long as you are sure that you have the CORRECT wire colors you should have no problems. Oh and use diodes. If you don't know what a diode is then let a pro do it.
I've seen a few people do it themselves.. and well.. I must say it was most interesting I've only see two guys do it properly, and as for the ones that didn't.. It cost them a bit of coin

Don't do it yourself man ! I tried it with my brother's Honda Accord. I tried installing auto-start, and the tranny was screwed up. Luckily I got warranty from factory, but they said I have connected the remote wire wrong. I was luckily enough not to fried the computer. They said it could happen. So better watch out !!!
I got my remote starter at circuit city here in dallas, tx. It was an audiovox brand with a two-way transmitter remote, so it signals back to the user that the car received the signal. pretty sweet. I live on the third floor of my apartment and my car is parked on the other side of the building, and i can remote start the car from inside my place
But i agree with other people here, get it professionally installed. Not sure about all circuit city but i think it applies...the guys at CC said if anything EVER goes wrong with it, they will fix it for free...for as long as you own the car!! and so far nothing has gone wrong w/ my remote starter. just keep the receipt.
