Powering a 12w6

Anybody here have experiance powering a JL 12w6 sub, the RMS is 300 watts but ive heard the JL could handle more power, but ofcourse I dont want to blow the subwoofer, also any AMP reccomendation, I was looking at a MTX THUNDER 311D on ebay. which is 310watts RMS bridged. thanks.

Having more power than the application calls for is a good thing. It's called headroom and as long as you set the gains right and do not hammer the volume, you're golden.

I have a Crossfire amp and could not be happier(unless I had a Zapco amp).

I know a lot of people recommend the JBL amps as the best bang for buck amplifier. There are swarms of them on Ebay.

JL Audio's recommended RMS of 300 watts means that you can run 300 watts into the 12w6 for 8 hours straight before mechanical failure. Why anyone would listen to a 12w6 with 300 watts for 8 hours is beyond me.

I had two Crossfire amps in my Eclipse. My girlfriend has two Crossfire amps in her Protege. Now I'm running a PPI in my Camry. There are a lot of decent brands out there it just depends on how much you're willing to spend. How much are you looking to spend on an amp and we'll see what we can suggest? I personally despise JBL amps... I wouldn't use them for doorsteps.

Why not?

The JBL 180.2 makes a perfect doorstep.
