prob. with OEM CD player in 2002 camry

a friend of mine's daughter shoved something in the cd player on his , I'm pretty sure, 2002 camry. They got it out but the cd player will now work but it has a problem spitting the cd back out. The shop they took it too said a gear off to the side had been stripped. I agreed to check it out but i'm not very familiar with this model. Does this sound fixable, and if so how? Also any pointers on working with the dash and getting the cd player/tape player combo in and out would be appreciated.

if it's a double din cd player I can sell him my old one from the camry if he wants it. Or he should just go buy an MP3 player
