voice coil problem

my friends dvc cerwin wega is rattling.
its not the box, and its not anything inside the trunks.
its actually in the sub? its not a loose voice coil, and its not a blown sub because the sub is the same as it was when we got it.

a couple of my friend said that the voice coil might be going bad?is this possible?

one thing im leaning to is that when he got his sub, we didnt break it in, and that might be the cause of that. if so, can this get worse?

take the sub out of the car and play it free air to make sure it is the sub.

dont worry about not breaking the sub in. some people do it, some dont.

are the tinsel leads woven into the spider? if not they may be slapping.

does the sub play ok?

sometimes the VC begins to tear away from the cone, which makes a slapping noise. if you push evenly on the sub, and move it as it normally would, does it feel smooth?
