mr2 radio install

i bought the 87-95 toyota wiring harness for my mr2 but the factory radio harness head doesnt fit into the toyota adapter i bought does anyone know what is the easiest way to install my radio in my 91 mr2. i tried cutting the head off the factory harness and butting the wires but i think i got some of the negative and positive speaker wires crossed.. so if anybody could help whit how to use the adapters i bought or know the which each color of the factory wiring harness aplies to it would be of great help...
