Hello! First post here, and im hoping you guys can help.
I have a 1995 Taco that i picked up, and am starting my first project (a small video system). Now, i was expecting the system to be realativly simple, but i guess i was wrong.. I break it all out, and find the wiring is much more than just a ground and 12v...
+
Now, at the risk of sounding like a noob..... are all these connections really nessisary? And if they are, what is a good way to go about locating the needed wires (im a noob to cars in this case)? A book perhaps?
Any advice would rock. And, if people are interested, i can certianly keep them updated on how it works out.
Try installing just #1 and 3 and see if that works. I think 5 prevent you from turning on the LCD when the cars in drive? And 6 allows you to turn it on when the parking brake is up? Just a guess, I really don't know much about LCD wiring. 7 and8 are obvious.
But really, all you need is power and a ground to make it turn on, those 2 brake wires can probably be bypass i.e. either put a constant -ve or +ve feed to it to trick the LCD monitor.
Since you have an Alpine screen, yes, you will need to connect the foot & parking brake wires because you have to step on the foot & parking brake pedals through a series of combination to allow the screen to turn on for video output. Of course, all the other wires are needed too.
Originally posted by Luc Nope, ACC will not work. There's a reason why Alpine requires both wires to be connected. Besides, it's against the law to watch video in the front.
so, i guess i return it then??
ut what i dont get, is that everything else works with no problems in the front while driving (in dash, etc). Why cant this? Arg.. this is bull....

This is not "bull....", it is SAFETY. Imagine getting into an accident because of it, someone gets hurt, etc., if your insurance company finds out, they probably won't pay because it's ILLEGAL. You will end up pay bills after bills. It's not worth it.
If you (or anyone) still want to bypass it, go right ahead. Just be aware that "Big Brother" is always watching, due to recent incidents of "pron" showing in vehicles by stupid SUV drivers.
I understand safey, but, how do all the other systems get away with it? Like, the Mazda RX-8 worked while driving, and i have seen in-dash system work while driving.
I guess i should have gone with something else, since this is alot of hassle others dont have to go through.......
Its not illegal to be able to watch it while driving, its just illegal to do so. That being said, they put in that preventive measure because "they" know if they allow you do watch while driving you will. Quite frankly, if you do not know how/cant find the resources to disable this feature, you shouldn't be able to watch while driving.

Look no need for insults. Im new, yes, but not stupid. I just am not amazinlgy familiar with car wiring. I THOUGHT i could simply get some advice, but i guess even that was too much.
Could you please help this noob with disabling this feature. If you tell me what electronics i need, i would have no problem making them. I have done soildering before (as i am guessing i would need to here as well).
Why shouldn't he be able to have it on while driving? What about passengers? Isn't it passanger friendly. I thought that was the point. Alpine is stupid. I mean half of the crap we buy for the car is illegal or unsafe. Now lcd screens they want safety features. That is some real B.S. So what about navigation. If i get dvd navigation compatible to the screens are you telling me that i got to stop pull over put the car in park to see where the f*^k I am going on I-95. I gotta to say this one piece of info that piss me off. I am not a person who gets upset.
