1998 Camry Stock Alarm System

I have a question for you guys, for some reason my alarm system sometimes makes the "beep beep" or "beep" sound when I unlock or lock and sometimes doesn't. My alarm controller has only 2 buttons (one on top and one on the bottom). The one up top locks and unlocks, but the bottom one seems to do nothing, could it control some kind of "silent" setting or something? I played around with the button but didn't get any result. Could the alarm speaker perhaps be messed up or something?

Also, I have a a question about the stock sound system, how powerful is it (how many watts total power?).

those times that it doesn't beep, do the locks still de/activate? Maybe you need to replace the battery in the remote?

I think you have the same alarm I do and it can be set to operate a ton of different ways, fairly easily. Let me know what you wanna do and I'll look it up in my book and give you the simple instructions. I'm pretty sure the bottom button was to open the remote trunk release. You should have the RS3000 alarm if it's like mine. It was a $400 option and well worth it in my opinion.

I have the same alarm, and im upgrading. I went with a Delta Pro-5000. Remote start!

Shuluke

I dont know why it changes, but it sometimes changes on me too. I tried using that to open my trunk, the third button, but i couldnt get it to work....

Phi: When it doesn't beep, the lock's still work fine. It's just it kinda pisses me off because i'm sometimes paranoid that I forgot to lock the car when hurrying up to get to class. I rely on the beep to notify me, and when looking from the side of the car I can't see the lights blink, especially in daytime.

fj40supraman: I bought the car used, so I didn't get to customize the options, and have no idea what kind of alarm system there is in it. The car didn't come with a manual, so my dad just got me one from a 97 camry, and from that manual the alarm is definatly not the same as mine. How do I find out what kind of alarm I have?

I think the alarm is the same as mine if it's the 3000 system they all have roughtly the same programming instructions. They put this in a bunch of their cars as a option (the 4-runner too!). So what do you wanna do, do you want to set it to lock automatically or arm or just lock and not arm. Let me know what you care to do and I'll see if I can't get you the steps to program it to do so. If you really wanted you could probably order the book I have for a few bucks at your dealer, it's not that thick so I can't believe that it would be that expensive or if your willing to pay I could copy mine and send it to ya. Let me know, the programming isn't that hard, but somewhat tedious.

I just bought a used 99 Camry with an RS3000 and only one remote. I want to buy another remote but want to make sure that I can program it. The book says you have to press a button on the ECU unit. My problem is that I can't find the ECU unit. It is not under the driver seat. Where can it be? What does it look like and what color is the box?

My alarm unit is mounted under the passenger seat. Not sure where the ECU is. You can find out how to add a remote if you do a search. I know it's on here somewhere b/c I read it a while back. It's in the form of a TSB. Let me know if you can't find it.
