Does anyone know anything about this particular model? i was told that they have a security system in it so that it remembers the first cd you put in it and thats the only way to turn it back on if you uninstall.
i'm just looking for any information on it at all. i found one online for very cheap but idk anything about it really. j/w.
Eclipse used to be a very specialized audio equipment maker. Most ppl will be disappointed with the lack of features Eclipse decks offer at their prices. They're current products aren't as bad. I have one myself which I love but there are times that I curse it. One of my biggest gripes is the display. I'm not sure what your model looks like, but my screen glares so bad I can't even read the screen on sunny days...not even on an overcast day
At the end of the day, unless you got a really good deal, you might be happier with another deck. $0.02
well since you have an eclipse HU, maybe you can fill me in a bit on the ESN system...with the CD key. i checked their site and found out that most(if not all) models come w/ it, but it didn't explain it much and i couldn't find the model i speak of.
thanks.
sounds like the ESM is more of a pain in the ass then a preventive theft measure... idiots will still jack the face plate/stereo despite not being able to use it.

Basically, with ESN your HU installer asks you for a clean, unscratched cd (not a CDR or CDRW) at installation time. This becomes a key cd. If the head unit is unplugged or if your battery dies, the HU requires this CD before allowing anything else to play. The idea behind this is that the word gets out about eclipse units that stealing them is a big pain in the ass because you can't use them after they're unplugged.
If your HU is stolen, Eclipse will replace it, I think there's a one or three year limit on that replacement deal though. And your head unit has to be installed by an eclipse dealer in order for you to be eligible for replacement. For what it's worth, an ex-coworker had his eclipse deck stolen and it took about two months for Eclipse to replace it, but they did honor their warranty with no issues. All they wanted was a receipt with serial number showing that an authorized dealer had installed it.
Hate to revive an old thread but i was given a ecd-410 wiht a couple of kicker 6.5" (oldschool) from my dad for christmas. he has had the deck since brand new but that was in the mid 90's. no i am looking to install this what do i do about the CD key?

If it's locked and you don't have the key, the unit is locked and cannot be operated. The lock can be deactivated or activated at any time.
You might be able to contact Eclipse about unlocking it, but I'm not sure if they'll do it. They may require some proof of ownership or something.
The installer cannot unlock it for you if the unit is locked. Have you tried hooking up the stereo to see if it's locked or does your dad know what they key is?
It's hard to believe that the battery was never disconnected since the mid-90s
